- Retention Default
- Nothing leaves the operator's server: "All self-hosted AI features are built-in and only run on YOUR server, meaning no data leaves your premises and you're in full control."
- Retention Exceptions
- This row scores the fully local configuration only. Nextcloud also ships integrations that send data to external services — Deutsche Telekom, IONOS, OVHcloud and plusserver on the European side, OpenAI and Gemini on the other — and its own Ethical AI Rating marks the OpenAI path red. Choosing those backends is a different product with a different grade.

- Eu Procurement Reason
- The highest score in the registry, and it is worth being precise about why: this is open-source software running open-weight models on the buyer's own hardware, which is the shape methodology v1 rates highest by construction — the same 90s band as self-hosted Mistral and self-hosted DeepSeek R1. There is no vendor in the data path to have jurisdiction over, nothing to retain, and no sub-processor to disclose, so four of the six components are either full marks or structurally not applicable. Nextcloud adds something those two rows do not have: a published Ethical AI Rating that colour-codes every backend, including its own partners, and rates the OpenAI integration red. A vendor that grades its own integrations against itself is rare enough to say out loud. The caveat is that the grade attaches to the local configuration; the same product pointed at OpenAI is a different row that nobody has graded.
