- The training position is the strongest in the batch and it is the only opt-in one: content is used to train and improve machine-learning models "only where you have opted in to this use at signup and only for as long as you remain opted in", with the honest caveat that de-identified content already used in prior training cannot be unwound. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

- The only vendor in this batch whose model training is opt-in rather than opt-out, and one of two whose sub-processor list is mostly European: Cloudflare in the EU, Heroku in Ireland, DeepL in Germany, with Slack in the US for internal communications under standard contractual clauses. An Irish controller, an EU data centre, SOC 2 Type II completed in July 2026 by an independent auditor, and a policy that states plainly which processing rests on consent and that consent can be withdrawn. What it does not have is an ISO 27001 certification of its own — the ISO claim attaches to the data-centre facility, not to Happy Scribe — and there is no zero-retention or self-hosted option, so a buyer who needs the recording gone within a day should look at the Speechmatics container path.
